A message from the President

Message From Engr. Husnain Ahmad, President
Pakistan Engineering Congress

Engineers, Water & Power experts, Scholars, Scientists, Faculty of Engineering Universities, Engineering Consultants, Members of Engineering Institutions, Engineering Students and above all Members of Pakistan Engineering Congress fraternity greetings & Assalam –o-Alaikum.

          A good news for all and all times to come.
          Pakistan Engineering Congress has lived-up to its cherished objectives & its name as the most prestigious as well as the Premier Engineering Association of the Sub-Continent;
The objectives of the Congress are:

  • To promote science, profession and practice of engineering.
  • To afford its members opportunities for meeting periodically, to discuss, propagate and pursue matters of professional interest.
  • To have a Code of Ethics which shall govern the professional conduct of its members.

This august Body has always been presided over by Eminent Engineers of standing e.g. R.S. Maclagan, M/s Walton, Griffin and Sir Ganga Ram. Important Schools, Roads, Hospitals, Philanthropic Institutions and Lift Irrigation Schemes like that of Ranala Khurd are reminiscent of their contributions for the betterment of the lot of the public at large. After independence, it was presided over by icons like C. A. Hamid, Ashfaq Hassan, Dr. Mubashar Hassan, S. I. Mehboob, Sh. Ahmad Hassan and other prominent Engineers. The Congress has been equally fortunate to have been addressed at its Annual Sessions by the Presidents, Prime Ministers and Governors of the Country. I feel proud and happy to claim that most of the theories and formulae for the design of channels, barrages, regulating structures and cross-drainage structures which altoghether constitute the largest contiguous Irrigation system of the World, were indigenously developed by the Local Irrigation Engineers like M/s Kennedy, Lacey, Montague, Foy, Inglis, Kanwer-Sain, Khawaja Ghafoor, S. I. Mehboob, Pir Ibrahim, Sh. Ahmad Hassan and Dr. S. S. Kirmani etc.

It has commenced emptying all of its Treasure trove (at Congress website www.pecongress.org.pk) of Scholastic excellence right from its inception in 1912.

  • 679 number technical papers on myriad Engineering Projects, issues and concepts by eminent Engineers, Water experts; Power Engineers, Scholars, Scientists & academicians contained in 70 number volumes.
  • 259 number papers presented at Annual & Mid-Term symposiums organized by the Congress on burning as well as issues of National Significance contained in 30 Volumes.

Library

The Lobrary of Pakistan Engineering Congress which is basically a research and reference Labrary has more than 2500 Books on Engineering and Computer subjects. It is organized on Dewey Decimal Classification System and catalogued according to Anglo American Cataloguing Rule – II. The catalogue is fed in computer for scientific retrieval. Members visiting the Library have the facility of getting photocopies of desired material.

          Over and above the Congress has established an online library linked with state of the art facilities. Pakistan Engineering Congress has got affiliation with digital library resources of Higher Education Commission. Higher Education Commission has registered Pakistan Engineering Congress and granted access to its resources.

Computer College

          The Computer Centre of Pakistan Engineering Congress was established in 1994 with the generous donation of computers by the then President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. It was later upgraded to an Institute which was inaugurated in 1997 by the then Prime Minister of Pakistan. The college run by mostly the foreign qualified faculty, has three computer Labs equipped with   state-of-the-art-computing possess clusters of P-IV (core-2-dou systems) backed by powerful server. There are 3 multimedia projectors with screens in the labs with latest technology and overhead projectors as well. There are 3 classrooms which are all well furnished and fully air-conditioned. Today, it offers courses ranging from the basic one to the most advanced IT courses to engineers, engineering students and the youth with general education at a very nominal tuition fee.
